Sports Massage in Didsbury
Training hard takes its toll. Tight calves after a long run, heavy legs after a big week in the gym, the shoulder that always niggles before a race. Sports massage helps you recover, move more freely and keep doing what you enjoy.
At Holland Osteopathy in Didsbury, sports massage sits alongside our osteopathy service. So if something turns out to need more than a massage, you’re already in the right place.
WHO IT’S FOR
Runners, from first 5k to marathon
Gym-goers and lifters
Cyclists, footballers and anyone playing sport regularly
People training for an event and wanting to stay on top of things
Anyone who feels tight, stiff or heavy from training and wants to recover properly
WHAT TO EXPECT
We’ll start with a quick chat about your training, what’s feeling tight and what you’ve got coming up. The massage is then tailored to that, focused on the areas that need it rather than a set routine. It can be firm when it needs to be, but it’s always worked to what you’re comfortable with.
You’ll leave with a couple of simple things to do between sessions to keep the benefit going.
SPORTS MASSAGE OR OSTEOPATHY?
Sports massage is ideal for maintenance, recovery and managing training load: the general tightness and soreness that comes with being active.
Osteopathy is the better choice if you have pain that isn’t settling, a specific injury, pain that spreads into an arm or leg, or something you’d like properly assessed and diagnosed.
Not sure which you need? Book an osteopathy appointment and we’ll point you in the right direction.

It depends on your training. Many people book every 2 to 4 weeks during a heavy block, and more often around an event.
How often should I have a sports massage?
1
Both can help. A lighter session a few days before a race, and a recovery session 2 to 5 days after once the initial soreness has eased.
Should I have a massage before or after a race?
2
It can feel firm in tight areas, but it shouldn’t be painful. Your therapist will check in with you throughout.
Will it hurt?
3
What should I wear?
4
Something comfortable, ideally shorts for lower body work.
Yes. If your therapist thinks something needs a closer look, they’ll let you know, and you can book in with George for a full assessment, all in the same clinic.
Not at all. If you’re active in any way, whether that’s walking, gardening, the gym or weekend football, and you feel tight or sore, sports massage can help.
