Don't let arthritic pain limit your life. Take the first step towards recovery and book your Osteopathic appointment at Holland Osteopathy.
Around 10 millions people in the UK suffer with arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most common form and is characterised by localised loss of cartilage, remodelling of adjacent bone and associated inflammation. This commonly affects the peripheral joints such as your, fingers, ankles, hips and knees, but it can also manifest in the spine, leading to back and neck pain.
Arthritis is a frequent concern at Osteopath clinics, often presenting as back and neck pain, despite its usual occurrence in peripheral joints. Although Osteopaths cannot reverse arthritis, we employ conservative techniques to effectively address associated symptoms.
If you want an expert diagnosis, and hands on treatment, without long NHS waiting times, then Holland Osteopathy is for you.
An Osteopathic appointment can involve the following:

What is arthritis?
The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis (OA) which refers to a clinical syndrome of joint pain accompanied by varying degrees of functional limitation and reduced quality of life. The most commonly affected peripheral joints are the knees, hips and small hand joints, but it can also affect the spine (see spondylosis). Pain, reduced function and effects on a person's ability to carry out their day-to-day activities can be important consequences of osteoarthritis.
-
The cause of OA is an interplay of risk factors (see below), mechanical stress, and abnormal joint mechanics. The combination leads to pro-inflammatory markers that eventually mediate joint destruction. The complete pathway that leads to the destruction of the entire joint is unknown.
Risk factors: include age, female gender, obesity, anatomical factors, muscle weakness, and joint injury (occupation/sports activities).

Osteopathic treatment, alongside exercise, can help to relieve the pain of arthritis and improve or maintain your mobility.
Exercise should focus on:Local muscle strengthening
General aerobic fitness.
